Call to protect Pacific Ocean from overfishing

Scientists are calling for large ocean areas to be protected in a similar way to the Great Barrier Reef off Queensland's coast.

Most of the world's open ocean is still unprotected and fishing is largely uncontrolled in international waters.

Professor Bob Pressey from the Centre of Excellence for Reef Studies says satellite technology is making the concept of protecting the entire southern Pacific Ocean a reality.
