Red tide enters Corpus Christi bay
COASTAL BEND — The toxic red tide bloom that has lingered in the gulf for at least two weeks has drifted into bay waters near Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Meridith Byrd, a harmful algae biologist with Texas Parks & Wildlife, reported noticeable aerosol effects of red tide near the college but no dead fish. Red tide in high enough concentrations can kill fish and cause respiratory irritations in humans, such as coughing, itchy eyes and sore throat.
