The May 24 Point of View piece by Stephen Ammons in support of recreational fishing strikes a chord. A senior citizen now, I remember growing up around the Chesapeake Bay and watching striped bass plundered commercially so that for decades we endured a total moratorium on them. I then came to North Carolina and saw the same near destruction of red drum. I watched with horror as giant red drum were left on the beach to rot after a blitz at Hatteras Point and were hung as trophies on the board at Oneal's Dock on Silver Lake.
