Battle brews over game fish proposal

The N.C. House is considering a bill that would give game fish status to spotted sea trout, red drum and striped bass in North Carolina, effectively making the fish off limits to commercial fishermen.

The bill, which has bipartisan support, is opposed by commercial fishermen and by the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries, both groups saying the bill is unnecessary and will have a negative effect on the state's commercial fishing industry.
