Shell sponsorship promotes CCA youth angler outreach and education program

Coastal Conservation Association and Shell Oil Company (Shell) are proud to announce a new partnership to promote conservation ethics and education among young anglers through the award-winning CCA Rising Tide youth outreach and education program. With Shell’s three-year pledge, CCA will be able to devote more resources to its growing youth program, now with more than 15,000 young angling enthusiasts.

“Our coasts and oceans are some of the most exciting places on the planet and there is no end of amazing things for kids to see, learn and do in the marine environment,” said Patrick Murray, CCA National president. “But, getting kids to think more about the world beyond their cell phones and video games is an ongoing challenge. You have to get creative to get kids thinking about their role as future stewards of our marine resources, and Shell’s support of the Rising Tide program is allowing us to engage the conservationists of tomorrow better than ever.”

Through a dynamic youth program that includes an award-winning newsletter, and new interactive web site (WWW.RISINGTIDE.JOINCCA.ORG) Shell and CCA are endeavoring to capture the enthusiasm of young anglers and provide opportunities for them to understand, and appreciate, the coastal environment. The Rising Tide program engages young anglers to get involved with community habitat projects, participate in local and statewide tournaments, and promote marine science and conservation at their school. CCA and Shell are committed to engaging the imaginations of young people and inspiring them to become the conservation leaders of tomorrow.

“Conservation is reliant on future generations. That is why it is essential to teach children about the importance and value of nature at an early age,” said Bruce Culpepper, Shell’s US Country Chair. “Our partnership with CCA and the Rising Tide Program is a fun and exciting way to get them involved with marine habitat. Inspiring  the next generation of conservation leaders is one way Shell and CCA’s partnership contributes to helping make a better future for everyone.”

“There will always be conservation challenges that face our bays and oceans, and it is important for today’s kids to see that it takes passion and a willingness to get involved to protect these amazing resources,” said Murray. “We are fortunate to have a partner in Shell that shares our belief that the future depends on our helping today’s youth build a foundation for a lifetime of conservation now.”
